چکیده

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in enabling autonomous social robots to interact with people. However, many questions remain unresolved regarding the social capabilities robots should have in order to perform this interaction in an ever more natural manner. In this paper, we tackle this problem through a comprehensive study of various topics involved in the interaction between a mobile robot and untrained human volunteers for a variety of tasks. In particular, this work presents a framework that enables the robot to proactively approach people and establish friendly interaction. To this end, we provided the robot with several perception and action skills, such as that of detecting people, planning an approach and communicating the intention to initiate a conversation while expressing an emotional status. We also introduce an interactive learning system that uses the person’s volunteered assistance to incrementally improve the robot’s perception skills. As a proof of concept, we focus on the particular task of online face learning and recognition. We conducted real-life experiments with our Tibi robot to validate the framework during the interaction process. Proactive Behavior of a Personal Assistive Agent

The increased scope and complexity of tasks that people perform as part of their routine work has led to growing interest in the development of intelligent personal assistive agents that can aid a human in managing and performing tasks. As part of their operation, such agents should be able to anticipate user needs, opportunities, and problems, and then act on their own initiative to address th...

Concept of a robust & training-free probabilistic system for real-time intention analysis in teams

Present-day mobility and ubiquity of computing devices make information technology accessible for user activities that are temporally and, especially, spatially distributed. Besides mobile systems this enables ubiquitous computing that – as Weiser phrased it – “enhances computer use by making many computers available throughout the physical environment, while making them effectively invisible t...

On Proactive Helping Behaviors In Teamwork

Teamwork has become increasingly important in diverse disciplines. Cognitive studies on teamwork have shown that team members in an effective team often have mutual expectations based on their shared mental models and proactively offer assistance to each other. We present a formal model called Role-Based Proactive Helping Behaviors (RoB-PHB) to enable proactive assistance among (sub)teams. Thro...

Visualization of Teaching-assistant robot's Image Based on Child's Mental Model

This study concerns the design of teaching-assistant robots that helps elementary school teachers while they are giving lectures. It focuses on finding images which fit the role of teaching-assistant robots, instead of merely suggesting several designs of robots that are preferred by children. For this study, the qualities that satisfy the role of a teaching assistant were studied by a literatu...

Emotional Expression in Simple Line Drawings of a Robot's Face Leads to Higher Offers in the Ultimatum Game

In the present study, we investigated whether expressing emotional states using a simple line drawing to represent a robot's face can serve to elicit altruistic behavior from humans. An experimental investigation was conducted in which human participants interacted with a humanoid robot whose facial expression was shown on an LCD monitor that was mounted as its head (Study 1). Participants were...
